Austin Dillon
Driver of the No. 3 Andy’s Frozen Custard™ Chevrolet® ZL1® NASCAR® Cup Series
What You May Not Know About Austin Dillon:
What type of car is your daily driver?
I always drive a Chevy. Right now, I have a Chevy Silverado. I love it, and it has a lot of room for Ace and Blaize. It’s turned into a dad car!
Has racing always been a part of your family and what age did you start racing?
Racing has been a part of my family my whole life. As a kid, I remember having pizza parties to celebrate every time Dale Earnhardt won. Even though racing has been a huge part of my family, I got a late start. I grew up playing stick-and-ball sports, and even played in the Little League World Series in 2001. My brother and I tested a bandolero when I was about 15, and have been racing ever since.
What was your very first win?
I remember getting my first big win at the dirt trac at Charlotte Motor Speedway in a dirt late model. That one sticks out in my mind. My first NASCAR win was in the Truck Series at Iowa Speedway in 2010.
Do you have a pre-race tradition/routine/superstition?
I’ve tried all sorts of things over the years, such as always wearing the same pair of cowboy boots on race day or listening to the same music. These days, I’m much more into routines. I like to wake up on race morning, attend church or pray with my family, do my race day appearances for sponsors and fans, and then eat a small, healthy meal before racing. It’s also important to stay hydrated.
What’s your favorite paint scheme?
That’s tough! We’ve had a lot of really good paint schemes over the years. The Andy’s Frozen Custard car was pretty cool (pun intended). Ha!
Do you have a racing idol?
I grew up watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. He was one of my favorites back in the day. I remember him always wearing a backwards baseball cap, which was so different from other drivers. I really respect and look up to my grandfather. It’s hard not to admire his drive and passion for the sport.
What’s your favorite track or race and why?
Usually, the last track I won at is my favorite. It’s hard to choose just one favorite track, but I really like Daytona International Speedway. That place is just special and has so much history and excitement around it.
What is your favorite treat at Andy’s?
The Austin Dillon 3 Crete!
Tell us what you like to do in your spare time that no one else would know.
I spend most of my spare time on the Carolina Cowboys. I’m the general manager of the team, so I’m always working on that project.
Tell us about your pet(s) if you have any.
I have a French bulldog named Gucci. She’s become a really key part of our family and we love her.
If you weren’t racing what other career would you like to have?
Probably a management role for RCR or a professional sports team.
What activities do you like to do with your family?
We are a very active family, and are always on the move. We love hunting and fishing together. These days, we also play quite a bit of pickleball together.
What’s your favorite way to celebrate a win?
The best win celebrations are the ones you get to spend with family and friends. It’s special to be able to share those winning moments with the people you love and care about. Usually, we have a big party!
